Right at the main pyramid complex is a small museum that houses some of the artifacts that were recovered here including these skulls and skeleton. The site at Monte Alban was used as a Mixtec burial ground and many finely preserved skeletons were found here.
The museum also houses many small sculptures that were in fine condition, especially considering how old they are. To think that pottery fired statues could survive for over a thousand years is quite remarkable.
The photograph below shows a statue of a man wearing a mask; if you look under the teeth of the animal you can see the man’s face inside its mouth.
