Mongolian burial ground

On our way back to our ger at Baga Gazriin we returned to the Mongolian burial grounds.  Soyoloo explained to me that these burial grounds are from the 16th to 17th centuries, about 300 to 500 years old.  The larger the mound, the more important the person buried within.

Many of the tombs appear to have either collapsed or were dug up and looted.  Soyoloo said that it is believed that many of these tombs had been raided by tomb raiders looking for gold jewelry.  The edges of the tombs are lined with flat rocks planted vertically into the ground.

The new boots were working fine as my feet stayed toasty warm even in ankle deep snow.
