what $59 buys in Xi’an, China

Xi'an at night
Just in the news...

After two long flights, a long bus ride and a taxi, I was so happy to arrive at my hotel in Xian.  I chose the Sofitel and purchased it on Expedia.  It was less than sixty dollars and I wasn’t sure what to expect; the Sofitel name is a high-priced hotel, but you never know when you’re overseas what to expect.  I was not dissapointed, the hotel was beautiful and was one of the nicest rooms I had stayed in all year.

The room had a forier, 14′ walk in closet, spacious living room, study area, bedroom, and a massive bathroom with tub, shower, and all the amenities.  I had a feeling that China was going to be very easy on my wallet…

  1. Backpacking the high class way! The hotel looks great, amazing that it only cost you $59/night. Does it have free wifi, breakfast etc?

    • Yes, it had high-speed internet. They did have an option for breakfast but I thought the price too steep, maybe US $20. I just went to town in the morning and had breakfast down the road from the hotel. The “regular” hotel price was substantially higher, this was the Expedia.com rate – I booked it from the hotel business center on arrival.
